Ride the Peak
The Muddy Lane
Four members of the Ride the Peak team have been busy with shovel and pickaxe on ‘the muddy lane’ section of bridleway from Aston (Edge Farm) to Hope Brink. Where previously the spring exited the field and flowed down the track, often ruining what can otherwise be a dry ride, the team have channelled the water across the track and out through the wall. The result is that even after two days of rain the downstream side was starting to dry out, and a dry line had appeared through the mud.
Shatton Mast
The appalling bit of track from the mast to the head of Overdale has been resurfaced, restoring the original rough surface and doing away with those lovely 4x4 ruts and lagoons. This makes the loop from Brough to Shatton a viable winter ride once more.
Motorised Vehicle Update
It appears the local authorities, Peak Park and Police are making concerted efforts to deter the illegal use - and therefore minimise the impact – of motorbikes, quad bikes and 4x4s used illegally on certain Peak District trails. Signs have gone up, for example by Shatton Mast.
Winstone Lee Tor Reconnaissance
A large group from Ride the Peak checked out the state of the trails around Ladybower with a view to specifying and raising money for work on the ‘bombholes’ along the trail from the col to the gate at GR 198 884 and the section from Cutthroat Bridge to the col of Winstone Lee Tor (GR 197 874). The group also checked out the Farmer’s Blonde in the Ladybower Inn later that evening…
